Paris Saint-Germain make late attempt to hijack Manchester City's bid to sign former Juventus defender Dani Alves

Paris Saint-Germain have made a late bid to sign Dani Alves from the clutches of Manchester City. 

The Brazilian full-back was expected to have his medical at City early this week after agreeing terms on a two year contract following his departure from Juventus.

However, PSG have made overtures to sign him with French media reports claiming on Saturday night that an agreement had been reached with the 34-year-old.

Alves though has a strong bond with his former Barcelona mentor Pep Guardiola and City retain hope that he will still sign for them this week.

PSG will have to work hard to convince Alves, however, with the defender understood to have negotiated the termination of his contract at Juventus in order to be reunited with Guardiola, who signed him from Sevilla. 

'Everyone knows my admiration for Pep Guardiola,' Alves said last month when asked about the switch to England. 

Following the release of Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy, City are in need of right backs and a move for Tottenham's Kyle Walker remains a possibility. 

But should Alves join Unai Emery's squad, he would provide competition for Serge Aurier and Thomas Meunier in the right-back position.
